The national team door is still open for Nainggolan

Belgian technical director admits the national team door is still open for Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan

Speaking to the media before Belgium’s 4-0 win over Cyprus, Chris van Puyvelde also gave praise to Dries Mertens and also clarified a harmonious relationship between Roberto Martinez and Maurizio Sarri.

“Belgium wants to win the World Cup,” he told the media.

“We have a quality team, which has the potential to win the World Cup and the desire to go very far is possible, but there are some other teams that are better prepared.

“We are very confident with Mertens, not only for the moment but also the future.

“He’s developed a lot, determined, full of fun, he works as part of the team and then wants to grow further.

“I’ve known Mertens for a long time, when he was still in Belada, and when I saw him, a friend told me he had the potential to become a star.

“Mertens is capable of appearing as an attacker, but he has other capabilities that can differentiate him from any player.

“There’s no problem between Sarri and Martinez. I invited the Napoli coach to visit the Dutch national team.

“I think there is a good relationship between the two coaches and there is no problem at all.

“Nainggolan tedepak from the Belgian team? No. I can not predict the future, but the door is never closed.

“There is a squad that needs help, and will depend on the coach for who to choose.”
